Lazio have reportedly been duped by online scammers and paid the final instalment of defender Stefan de Vrij's transfer fee to fraudsters rather than Dutch club Feyenoord.

According to Italian newspaper Il Tempo, the Serie A club were tricked into sending £1.75 million to the wrong bank account in Holland by hackers with knowledge of the deal.

The scam was carried out by email, when Lazio received a message purporting to be from Feyenoord, including bank details, asking for payment.

They duly sent the money, buy Feyenoord have not received the cash and claim to have no knowledge of said email.

Il Tempo reported that the prosecutor looking into the case has tracked down the money to a Dutch bank account, which does not belong to Feyenoord.
