Laurens/Milford holds on in opener; Roxbury's Ware wins 500th game

Mar. 28—The Laurens/Milford baseball team rallied for three runs in the sixth inning and held on to win its season opener 5-4 over Jefferson/Stamford in Milford Thursday.

Evan Clark struck out 12 over four innings and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead L/M.

Nick DeBoer earned the win while TJ O'Connor earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning and went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the win.

Tyler Doughtry tallied his first varsity hit for L/M.

Jordan Anderson struck out 11 while Brandon Harris struck out five for J/S.

L/M will visit CV-S/SS Wednesday, April 10.

Roxbury/Gilboa 19, Margaretville 3

Roxbury/Gilboa opened its season with a 19-3 win over Margaretville Thursday as coach Jane Ware notched her 500th career victory.

The longtime Roxbury coach's milestone win came in the first game of the Rockets and Gilboa merging for softball.

Bailey Hughes had a triple for R/G while Mikayla Wright recorded a two-run single.

Delhi notched a 17-0 win over Walton/Downsville to open up its season Thursday.

Alli Ferrara went 2-for-4 with two hits and two RBI for the Bulldogs while pitching five shutout innings, striking out 12 and allowing one walk and two hits.

Kara Fitch, Peyton Garcia, Victoria Verspoor, Delaney McCann and Leah Young each drove in a run in the win.

Lo Robinson went 2-for-2 for Walton/Downsville while Hailey Card and Layla Winner combined for six strikeouts in the circle.

Delhi will be in Cortland next Wednesday for the Lumber Yard Classic. W/D will visit Afton next Friday.
