KVCA announces 2023 Ms. Kentucky Volleyball winner, All-State selections

Covington Holy Cross’ Julia Hunt has been named 2023 Ms. Kentucky Volleyball by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association.

Hunt, a 6-foot-1 senior middle blocker, ranked No. 1 in the state in kills per set (6.93) this season. She led her team in kills (658), blocks (114) and aces (83) and ranked second in digs (286).

Hunt has committed to the University of Washington.

Assumption junior Kristen Simon was named Defensive Player of the Year. Simon, who has committed to Wisconsin, leads the Rockets with 437 digs this season (4.37 per set).

Paul Dunbar’s Jennifer Morgan was named Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to a 33-7 record and 11th Region championship.

Simon was one of four players from Louisville to earn first-team All-State honors, joining teammates Emilee Fuller and Charlotte Moriarty and Seneca’s Ayen Nhial.

The KVCA’s Regional Player of the Year awards from the Louisville area went to Mercy’s Madelyn Yaden (Sixth Region), Moriarty (Seventh Region) and Oldham County’s Shelby Davis (Eighth Region).

Coach of the Year honors from the area went to Mercy’s Connie Hulsmeyer (Sixth Region), Christian Academy’s Sherry Ashley (Seventh Region) and North Oldham’s Kayla Gamsky (Eighth Region).
