St. Johnsbury ousted at the Little League New England regionals

The 10-to-12-year-old all-stars from St. Johnsbury secured their first Vermont state title in 38 years on Sunday.
Now, they'll attempt to do something no Vermont team can claim: Reaching the Little League World Series.
The Vermont state champions open their run at the New England Region tournament on Saturday, Aug. 5, vs. Massachusetts in Bristol, Connecticut. The winner of the modified double-elimination tournament advances to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, site of the World Series.
First pitch for the Vermont-Massachusetts contest is set for 10 a.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
The New England Region includes state champions from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. New England states Connecticut and Rhode Island are in the Metro Region with New Jersey and New York.

The New England, Metro and Mid-Atlantic region tournaments will run concurrently at A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Leadership Training Center in Bristol.

SATURDAY, AUG. 5
Game 1: Massachusetts 12, St. Johnsbury 0
M: Nate Chabot (6IP, 1H, 15K, 1BB). Owen Collins (2-for-3, 3B, 3 RBIs). Patrick Furbush (2-for-3, 3 RBIs). Andrew Sullivan (1-for-2, HR, 2 RBIs). Brendan Ryan (2-for-2, 2B, 2 RBIs).
Note: Wyatt Lazerick ended Chabot's perfect game bid by drawing a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning. Massachusetts put the game away with an eight-run outburst in the top of the sixth.

Game 3: New Hampshire 12, St. Johnsbury 1

Note: The Vermont state champions have been eliminated from the competition after back-to-back defeats.
