Knicks’ Miles McBride drops 39 points on G League assignment

New York Knicks rookie Miles McBride on Tuesday dropped a season-high 39 points on assignment with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League.

McBride finished the contest by shooting 15-of-26 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, in the 110-105 win over the Motor City Cruise. He also registered eight rebounds, seven assists, five steals and one blocked shot in 44 minutes.

The Knicks opted to send McBride to Westchester with the team back to near full strength after a recent coronavirus outbreak and other injuries. The team views Westchester as a great avenue to get McBride playing time and reps with several veterans ahead of him on the roster.

The contest on Tuesday marked the fifth appearance by McBride with Westchester and his second 30-point performance. He is averaging 29.2 points, 8.2 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals on 44.4% shooting from 3-point range.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau previously expressed how important it is for McBride to play with Westchester when possible. The assignments have given him a great chance to stay ready and continue his development as the Knicks believe he has a bright future.

The playing time may not necessarily be there now for McBride but the 36th pick has the luxury of playing with Westchester to stay sharp and work on his game.
