Knicks’ Jacob Toppin to participate in Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star weekend

Knicks forward Jacob Toppin is expected to participate in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star weekend in Indianapolis, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Toppin is the younger brother of former Knick Obi Toppin, who is the most recent player in franchise history to take home the Slam Dunk championship (2022).

Backup center Jericho Sims represented New York during last season's contest, but he was eliminated in the first round after receiving just 95.4 points for his first two dunks.

Toppin signed with New York on a two-way deal after going undrafted out of the University of Kentucky this offseason. The 6-foot-9 center has just three NBA appearances under his belt thus far, but he's averaging 17.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists across 12 games with the Westchester Knicks this season.

The other contestants this season reportedly include defending champ Mac McClung, Boston Celtics All-Star guard Jaylen Brown, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Miami Heat.
