If Kliff Kingsbury joins Chicago Bears, Marvin Harrison Jr. could land with Arizona Cardinals

A scenario emerged Thursday that could help the Arizona Cardinals land star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in the NFL draft in April.

Per multiple reports, former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who just finished his first season as senior offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach at USC, is expected to interview for the Chicago Bears’ vacant offensive coordinator position.

Kingsbury spent this past season working side-by-side with Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams, who is the overwhelming favorite to go No.1 in the draft. The Bears own the first pick, and should they decide to hire Kingsbury, it could be seen as a prelude to drafting Williams first overall.

The former Arizona Cardinals head coach and now USC Trojans assistant coach Kliff Kingsbury talks to quarterback Caleb Williams (13) during the pregame warmup before playing the Arizona State Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe on Sept. 23, 2023.

Williams looked like he was going to be a sure thing to go No.1 to Chicago until Bears quarterback Justin Fields heated up down the stretch and finished strong. The speculation recently had been the Bears might stick with Fields moving forward, trade out of the top spot and drop to No. 2 or 3 and select Harrison as another weapon for Fields.

The Commanders and Patriots, each of whom needs help at quarterback, are presently set to pick second and third overall, respectively. If those teams draft a QB, it opens the door for Arizona to swoop in and select Harrison, the first Ohio State wideout to record back-to-back, 1,000 receiving-yard seasons in school history.

The Bears fired Luke Getsy as offensive coordinator after two seasons and also decided to move on from quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko along with other assistant coaches.

Kingsbury went 28-37-1 in four seasons with the Cardinals and was fired following a 4-13 finish in 2022. He had one winning season in Arizona (11-6 in 2021) and that one ended with an ugly Wild Card loss on the road to the Rams.
