Klay Thompson's Weirdness Won NBA All-Star Weekend

Klay Thompson, a man whose status as the second-best shooter in the NBA is cruelly obscured by the fact that he's only the third-most prolific scorer on his own team, has developed a reputation around the league as a sort of lovably doofy weirdo, the type who challenges dogs to laconic one-on-one games, nervously glances around for cops when answering questions about medical marijuana, and occasionallys transform into the guy at the office holiday party who bribes the bartender to serve him doubles and then just lets the music take control.

During last weekend's All-Star festivities in Los Angeles, Klay was asked to pose for an official picture alongside Golden State Warriors teammates and fellow All-Stars Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Draymond Green. And for reasons known only to him, his God, and (maybe!) the proprietor of the dispensary located nearest to his home, Klay responded by posing for one of those NBA player growth charts instead.

There's a lot to love here: the off-kilter foot positioning, the noticeable tilt away from his compatriots, and the fact that even though there are three people directly to his left who are providing three different and perfectly reasonable examples for him to follow, Klay Thompson still has no idea what to do with his hands. He looks like someone whose lazy, last-minute LEGO figurine Halloween costume consists of him wearing his regular clothes and then just moving his limbs awkwardly and pretending not to have working elbows whenever confused partygoers ask him what he's supposed to be.

Given Thompson's recent history of leaning into living his life as a meme, it is also possible that he and his teammates purposely arranged this photo just so. These dudes have spent a lot of time over the last few years smiling politely for obligatory photos, and perhaps at some point, you realize that you have to find a way to spice things up. Pretending that you're being Photoshopped in at a later date is as fine a strategy as any for accomplishing that task.

Here's more of Thompson from the same shoot, staring intently into space like he's about to remember the name of the 807th Pokemon and finally finish this dang Sporcle quiz.

Whether Klay Thompson is a hilarious jokester, hails from another planet, or possibly a little bit of both, he's never leaving the Warriors.
