Kirby Smart, Georgia football updates at 2023 SEC Media Days: Follow our live coverage

NASHVILLE — Two-time defending national champion Georgia football is the main attraction at SEC Media Days Tuesday.

Coach Kirby Smart will be joined by All-American tight end Brock Bowers, center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger and cornerback Kamarri Lassiter for the morning session at the Nashville Grand Hyatt.

The Georgia contingent follows Vanderbilt with Auburn and Mississippi State on the scene for the afternoon segment.

Smart will begin his eighth season with a program considered the favorite to win yet another national title. He arrives in Nashville after a difficult offseason that started with two members of the football program killed in a crash hours after a national championship celebration.

A three-peat for Georgia football? Kirby Smart addresses that- 12:09 p.m.

Kirby Smart was asked about Georgia football having a chance to win three straight national titles like Minnesota in the 1930s.

“It would be a lot of hard work," he said. "We’re a long from that, to make that assumption or make that theory relevant. I’m going to worry about the next day’s work more than the achievement.”

As expected, Smart fielded a question about the continued incidents of players speeding after the fatal crash in January that killed two from the program.

“I’m disappointed any time we have traffic incidents," he said. "We’ve had traffic citations and incidents. We actually don’t have more. What concerns me most is the safety of our players."

Early in Kirby Smart's time at the podium Wednesday morning, Georgia coach Kirby Smart spoke of his program going "through one of the highest of highs," to win a second straight national title.

"We then endured the loss of two dear family members—Devin Willcok and Chanler LeCroy," he said. "We love them and we miss them."

He said the two being killed in the Jan. 15 early morning crash was "one of the toughest things I’ve experienced."

He paid tribute to Georgia athletic staff members including senior administrator Darrice Griffin who he called "a rising star."

Georgia football injury updates for Mykel Williams & Kendall Milton- 11:20 a.m.

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart gave an update on defensive lineman Mykel Williams’ toe injury and running back Kendall Milton’s hamstring injury leaving spring practice.

He said that Milton is back to “full health.

As for Williams, a likely preseason All-SEC pick, “he will be full go by fall camp. He is not full go currently, but he’s had a great rehab, work in progress. I mean, I’ve gotten to see him run some during the agility stuff we get to go view. He’s not back completely yet.”
