Kingston, Central Kitsap run down team cross country league titles

The title of top Olympic League 2A high school cross country program belongs to Kingston High School. The Buccaneers proved that by sweeping team titles at the league championship meet Thursday at Lincoln Park in Port Angeles.

In the 5,000-meter boys race, Kingston senior Lucas Lenz captured individual honors with a time of 15 minutes, 59.23 seconds. Bremerton’s Dallin Anderson finished second in 16:11.58, followed by Kingston’s Luke Whalen, Sequim’s Colby Ellefson, Olympic’s Samuel Bonsell, North Kitsap’s Quincy Stuart, Olympic’s Joshua Turner, Kingston’s Emmanuel Moes, Bremerton’s Asher Stewart and Port Angeles’ Tymer Lytvak.

Kingston’s boys team finished first with 38 points, followed by Olympic (69), Sequim (99), Port Angeles (105), North Kitsap (112), Bremerton (118) and North Mason (159).

On the girls’ side, Kingston topped the field with 48 team points, ahead of North Kitsap (66), Sequim (75), Olympic (78), Port Angeles (104), Bremerton (171) and North Mason (177).

Olympic freshman Brynn Fulton placed first individually in 20:36.41. Roundup out the top 10 were Sequim’s Kaitlyn Bloomenrader (20:51.50), Port Angeles’ Leia Larson, North Kitsap’s Kendall Becker and Georgia Nelson, Kingston’s Emmie McGrew, Port Angeles’ Miriam Cobb, Kingston’s Isabell Hunt, Sequim’s Dawn Hulstedt and Kingston’s Ariana Forbes-Prater.

Central Kitsap dominated the South Sound Conference 3A championship meet at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood.

CK’s girls, defending state champions, scored 29 points to beat out Gig Harbor (47) in a matchup between the two top-ranked teams in 3A. Junior Clare Herring placed second individual at 18:32.9. She was flanked by teammates Audra Palmer (5th), Camryn Bishoff (6th), Taylor Palmer (7th) and Sally Corder (9th).

Central Kitsap’s boys scored 15 points as a team to place first and took the top five spots individually. Senior Blake Reynolds led the way in 16:23.1, followed by Mana Voss, Michael Vlach, David McClain and Gavin Brown.

In the South Puget Sound League 4A meet at Fort Steilacoom Park, South Kitsap’s girls placed fifth and boys placed seventh. Top runners for the Wolves individually were junior Lauren Laws, who placed second on the girls’ side in 19:15.8, while sophomore Isaac Benjamin took ninth on the boys’ side in 16:53.

At the Nisqually League 1A meet at Port Townsend Golf Course, Klahowya’s boys placed first and girls placed second in the team standings. The Eagles’ top finisher on the boys’ side was sophomore Carson Wintch (17:52), while junior Natalie Oathout ran 19:16.7 to place third on the girls’ side.
