What Kings' Murray told McNair, Brown in first phone call originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Keegan Murray is ready to win.

In the first episode of The Run, a new, all-access YouTube series following the Kings, the No. 4 overall pick made that very clear to general manager Monte McNair and head coach Mike Brown in their first phone call together.

"I'm excited. I'm ready to get to work," he said moments after being drafted. "It's time to win."

And win, he did.

Heading into summer league, all eyes were on what Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, and Jabari Smith Jr., the first three picks of the 2022 NBA Draft, respectively, would do. While those three were impressive in their own right, Murray took the spotlight.

At the conclusion of summer league, Murray was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2K23 NBA Summer League, averaging 23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists with 1.3 steals. Murray proved why the Kings thought so highly of him after outperforming the three players selected in front of him.

With so much of his focus geared toward winning, it's not hard to see why Kings fans are optimistic about making the playoffs this season after missing out for 16 straight seasons (an NBA record). Considering how the 21-year-old Murray has already impressed Brown, there are a lot of things to like about this Kings team.
