Kimberly Papermakers No. 1 in high school baseball rankings; undefeated Kaukauna Ghosts tops in softball

Here are area high school softball and baseball rankings through games from Saturday.

Baseball

1, Kimberly (12-4): Papermakers won all four games last week in Fox Valley Association play. Brayden Deering and Alex Vander Loop each have four wins on the mound to lead the team's pitchers.

2, Hortonville (12-3): Polar Bears rally with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get past Kaukauna 10-9 on Friday. Team is half-game behind Kimberly for FVA lead.

3, Appleton North (9-4): Lightning drops two spots in rankings after loss to Kimberly. Team did rebound and is coming off 5-0 victory over Oshkosh North on Friday.

4, Chilton (13-1): Tigers still undefeated in Eastern Wisconsin Conference and will have showdown with Kiel on Tuesday. Team's lone loss came in second game of doubleheader to Pewaukee on March 31.

5, Menasha (10-2): Bluejays enter the top five for first time this season and are coming off 5-1 victory over Xavier on Thursday. Junior pitcher/infielder Ian Dohms is 4-0 with an ERA of 2.33.

Others: Clintonville (9-2), St. Mary Catholic (8-3), Shiocton (9-3), Xavier (10-5), Wrightstown (8-4), Freedom (7-5).

Softball

1, Kaukauna (11-0): Fox Valley Association leading Ghosts get key 1-0 victory over second-place Oshkosh West on Thursday to complete sweep of Wildcats this season. Sophomore pitcher Karly Meredith is 10-0 with an ERA of 0.41 with 90 strikeouts in 51⅔ innings.

2, Freedom (17-1): Irish on 15-game win streak and have allowed just 11 runs over the past 13 games. Team has beaten D1 Appleton North and New London, a D2 state semifinalist last year, in the past three games.

3, Neenah (12-4): Rockets beat West Bend East on Saturday, 5-1. Morgan Harwood batting. 368 with a pair of home runs and 12 RBIs. Also 5-2 in the circle with a 2.62 ERA.

4, Chilton (10-3): Tigers tied atop the Eastern Wisconsin with New Holstein. Sophomore Gwendolyn Sell leads team in batting (.614) and also has three home runs with 23 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

5, Kimberly (13-7): Papermakers make first appearance in rankings and are coming off a 16-0 victory over Waukesha North. Senior infielder Jayda Nelson has three home runs and 19 RBIs.

Others: Winneconne (11-7), New London (10-6), Menasha (11-5), Shiocton (7-4), Hortonville (10-6), Seymour (7-3), Weyauwega-Fremont (8-5), Brillion (8-6).
