Kimberly, Kaukauna highlight area high school baseball, softball teams on top of rankings

Here are area high school baseball and softball rankings through games from Saturday.

Baseball

1, Kimberly (19-4): Papermakers need one more conference win to clinch at least a share of the Fox Valley Association title. Team plays at home against Oshkosh West on Tuesday and at Appleton North on Thursday. Max Kalk is batting .304 with three home runs and team-leading 29 RBIs.

2, Hortonville (17-4): Polar Bears still have outside shot at FVA title but would need to finish 3-0 in this final week and have a Kimberly loss. Team plays at Kaukauna on Monday, at Appleton East on Tuesday and at home against Oshkosh North on Thursday.

3, Chilton (21-1): Tigers wrap up Eastern Wisconsin Conference title with 11-7 win over Valders on Thursday. Close out regular season with game against Kewaunee on Monday. 4, Appleton North (15-6): Lightning was 4-1 last week with wins over Kaukauna, Oshkosh West, D.C. Everest and Eau Claire Memorial. Lone loss was to Hortonville. Team finishes up at Fond du Lac on Tuesday and at home against Kimberly on Thursday.

5, Menasha (16-4): Bluejays' 6-4 loss to Neenah on Saturday snapped six-game win streak. Team finished as Bay Conference champs and caps regular season with nonconference games against De Pere on Tuesday and at Pulaski on Thursday.

Others: Little Chute (14-5), Clintonville (11-6), St. Mary Catholic (12-4), Shiocton (14-5), Xavier (13-8), Wrightstown (12-9), Freedom (10-10).

Softball

1, Kaukauna (24-0): Ghosts' win streak hits 75 after team finishes 7-0 last week. Team outscored its opponents 55-2 over that span. Ghosts play winner of West De Pere/De Pere on Thursday in a Division 1 regional semifinal.

2, Freedom (21-2): Irish ranked No. 3 in the state in D2 in latest WFSCA rankings. Team takes on Notre Dame in regional semifinal Tuesday.

3, Chilton (18-3): Chilton on seven-game win streak after last loss May 6 to Notre Dame. Ninth-ranked Tigers play Kiel in a D3 regional semifinal Tuesday.

4, Neenah (18-6): Rockets have won six of their last seven games, with only loss coming to undefeated Kaukauna. Savanna Knuth is one of the team's top hitters with a .453 average, six home runs and 22 RBIs.

5, Kimberly (18-8): Papermakers have solid 1-2 combo in the circle with Josie Hammen (9-5, 2.57 ERA) and Aleigh Buss (8-0, 2.00 ERA). Will play Appleton West at Sunset Park on Tuesday in a D1 regional semifinal.

Others: New London (14-6), Menasha (16-8), Hortonville (16-9), Winneconne (14-10), Seymour (9-6), Weyauwega-Fremont (12-7).
