Coming into Sunday’s contest against the San Diego Chargers, the Miami Dolphins knew that the game was a must-win for the team. What followed was one of many great NFL contests on Sunday as both teams charged to the lead before slipping behind each other. With the game tied in the final minutes, both teams looked for the ultimate breakthrough that would deliver the win.

With the Chargers possessing the football, many probably believed it would be San Diego that earned that crucial score. However, thanks to an amazing play by Kiko Alonso to intercept Phillip Rivers’ pass and return it 60-yards for the score, the Miami Dolphins ran out of San Diego with an amazing 31-24 win over the Chargers.

It was a fitting way to win the contest for the Miami Dolphins. With San Diego struggling throughout most of the fourth quarter, the Dolphins forced four interceptions in that one quarter alone. That said, the Chargers could have easily won this game without one or two of those turnovers occurring.

Whether that be good luck or just skill at play, I can’t tell you. However, I’m thankful for whichever it was as it keeps are dreams of making the playoffs alive. Of the interceptions, Alonso’s was the most crucial given it’s impact on the final result. Also important were the two interceptions by Tony Lippett including one in the end zone to prevent what would have been a Chargers score.

Now that we got all of the good news out of the way, it’s time for the bad news. As a team, we did not play all that well during this game. The secondary was spotty at times despite the continuous pressure from the front four. Rivers was given many opportunities in the passing game which resulted in his 326-yards passing and three touchdowns.

On the offensive side of the ball, the team had to once again rely on Ryan Tannehill to move the football. While it worked this week, it won’t against some tougher opposition. The biggest question will be whether the 76-yard performance from Jay Ajayi was just a one-off game or a sign of tiring legs.

Heading to Los Angeles next Sunday, the Dolphins must again enter a game with a must-win attitude. Hopefully next week’s game will be less stressful for the fan’s to watch.
