Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Anthony Edwards would love to have Kevin Durant literally put himself in his shoes.

But the veteran Phoenix Suns superstar vehemently renounced Edwards' new AE1 signature adidas shoes on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, on Friday.

"Won’t EVER see me put a big toe in them Mfers," Durant said.

His explicit rejection post was a response to Edwards' wishful thinking out loud during a video interview with sneaker culture media outlet Nice Kicks released on Friday. Edwards was asked which NBA player he'd like to see don his shoes during a game, naming Durant while acknowledging he's endorsed by Nike.

"KD, and he with Nike" Edwards said. "I want to see him put on these one time."

Durant's rejection of Edwards' shoes drew since-deleted responses from adidas.

"U dusty bouta retire soon anyway," adidas said on X.

The company wrote in an additional post, "Meant to send this from the burner account."

Two things can be true here about that second reply from adidas. One, it might be a snarky allusion to Durant's X post in July that he uses a burner account on the social media platform Threads for his frequent responses to trolls and fans.

Two, whoever posted the adidas' response could've quickly realized counterattacking Durant's quip about Edwards' shoes was too incendiary.

However, Durant seemingly echoed Edwards' derisive quips about other NBA All-Stars' signature shoes in his recent adidas TV ad that launched his AE1 marketing campaign in October.

The 45-second commercial featured Edwards and his nephew from a worm's-eye view digging into a duffle bag. They shamed everything inside the bag, including LeBron James' Nike Air Zoom Generation, Ja Morant's Nike Ja 1, Luka Doncic's Luka 1, and LaMelo Ball's Puma MB. 01 shoes.

Edwards' nephew grabbed each of the shoes, handed them to Edwards to ask if he likes them. Then Edwards shook his head about each, "Nah, I ain't messing with them. These ain't nothing," and "Hell nah" before closing with his self-aggrandizing take about the AE1s.

Edwards’ AE1 shoes are scheduled for release this month.

Durant began promoting his Nike KD16 in a new Foot Locker ad during Thanksgiving week for the company's campaign for the Holiday season.

He's the league's second-leading scorer, averaging 31.2 points per game, and Edwards is 14th at 26.2 ppg.

When Phoenix routed Minnesota at home on Nov. 15, Durant had game-highs 31 points, six rebounds and six assists. Edwards had his season-low 13 points on 4-of-16 shooting.

Their next matchup will be on Apr. 5 in Phoenix. Until then, Durant has the upperhand performance-wise over Edwards as the dust settles from this exchange between KD and adidas.
