Kansas men’s basketball earns commitment from four-star point guard Labaron Philon

LAWRENCE — Kansas men’s basketball now has two public commitments in its 2024 recruiting class, as Labaron Philon has committed to the Jayhawks.

Philon, a 247Sports Composite four-star point guard, confirmed his commitment Monday night by sharing multiple posts on the social media platform X — formerly known as Twitter. He is the No. 27-ranked player in his class and No. 3-ranked player at his position. And he adds to a recruiting class that already includes one of the best available big men in his class in five-star center Flory Bidunga.

“I chose Kansas because my game can fit into their system really well,” Philon told On3. “Coach (Bill) Self is one of the best coaches ever and I can come in and make a big impact for the team.”

Philon’s commitment adds to a feeling of momentum around the program moving forward, as it looks to compete for another national title this upcoming season. Philon, of course, won’t be on that team. But he can start to leave his own mark with the Jayhawks the following season and build off of what’s to come in the months ahead.

It’s unclear what kind of roster Philon could be walking into, given how many decisions have to be made with key pieces of the team after this season. But veteran guard Dajuan Harris Jr. is likely returning. So, Philon should have time to develop before he’d be relied upon to be the lead option in that spot.

“I would describe my game as smooth,” Philon also told On3. "Being able to drive and knock down tough shots. Also a player who can get it done on both sides and lead a team.”
