‘It’s just a matter of time’: Magic confident shots will fall for Jalen Suggs

Orlando Magic rookie Jalen Suggs has struggled out of the gate to shoot the ball this season, but the team is confident the shots will begin to fall for the fifth overall pick.

The shooting struggles continued on Friday for Suggs as the Magic lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 102-89. Suggs finished the contest with 12 points, three assists, two blocked shots and one rebound in 27 minutes. He shot just 4-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-6 from 3-point range.

With his latest performance, Suggs is now averaging 12.6 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 10 games. He is converting on only 31% from the field, and 22.8% from 3-point range.

Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley expressed his confidence in Suggs prior to the game.

I think it’s just a matter of time (before his shots start to fall). He is putting the work in. I keep telling everyone about his mindset for what he is seeing. I think that is very important that he is recognizing the things before they are happening and now it’s just a matter of finding the process of slowing it down with his body.

The team is happy with the looks he is getting on the court, despite the low shooting percentage. He continues to show signs of being a capable shot-creator and has found success driving into the paint but is still working to finish those looks.

He still looks to be shooting the ball with confidence.

His teammates continue to encourage him to shoot the ball and play his game. Magic guard Cole Anthony constantly preaches to him to have a short-term memory and move onto the next play if a shot doesn’t fall on a given possession.

Suggs will continue to adjust to the NBA game this season but will have the luxury of playing through his mistakes. He will certainly have ups and downs throughout the year but his early playing time could ensure a faster development period.
