Josiah Williams shines as Penn edges Elkhart for boys track NIC title

Josiah Williams won two individual events and anchored a record-breaking relay team as Penn edged Elkhart, 164-161, to claim the high school boys track Northern Indiana Conference Meet title Thursday at Elkhart's Rice Field.

Kingsmen teammate Elijah Coker also came away with three blue ribbons, winning an indivdual event and running legs on two winning relay teams.

Williams won the 100 (10.87) and the 200 (22.23) and then anchored the 4x100 relay team that broke a 10-year-old record with a time of 42.03. DJ White, Coker and Kellen Watson ran the first three legs of that event. The old record of 42.17 was set in 2013 by Penn's Zach Oakley, Blake Beehler, Tommy Grant and Tim Deal.

Coker won the long jump in 22-9 and also anchored the winning 4x400 relay team (3:28.90). The other three legs were Taylor Bauer, Kelln Watson and DJ White.

Elkhart had a whopping seven victories to nearly unseat the Kingsmen as team champs.

Aaron Richter won the 1,600 (4:30.71), Max Malloy the 3,200 (9:33.14), Trinton Harris the high jump (6-5), Michael Gaff the pole vault (13-0), Rae'Kwon Lemons the shot put (53-9), Trenton Bias the discus (153-3) while the team of Denis Kale, Jackson Ezzell, Malloy and Richter was the 4x800 relay (8:06.99).

Saint Joseph's Luke Kaufhold swept the hurdles events, winning the 110 in 15.05 and the 300 in 39.85.

Other individual event winners were Adams' Bol Agwick in the 800 (2:00.63) and Jimtown's Bishop Williams in the 400 (41.03)
