Jordan Walsh understands he’s on the best team in the NBA

Jordan Walsh made his NBA debut for the Boston Celtics during their win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday (Jan. 18.) The rookie wing, who was drafted with the 38th pick in the 2023 NBA draft, has spent the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics.

When speaking to the media after earning 3 minutes of playing time, Walsh admitted that he understands the situation he currently finds himself in. He’s a young, inexperienced rookie playing on the best team in the NBA. Getting minutes on the Celtics, especially as a wing player, is not an easy task.

“For me personally, it’s been easy knowing that I’m in the best team, the best organization there is in the NBA right now,” Walsh said. “So, keeping that in my mind, knowing that the time is coming, it’s a process for everybody. I’m just at this point in my process, and hopefully by the end of this process, I’ll be where I want to be. And that’s kind of like how I approach every day, just wanting to get to that final end goal.”

Walsh, 19, signed a four-year contract with the Celtics, with the final two seasons both having a team option. He joined Boston with the reputation of being a high-level defensive prospect with great size and length. However, it will take time for him to acclimate to the NBA level and be ready to contribute in a significant role.

Until then, Walsh will continue to get spot minutes and work on his game in the G-League as he continues to wait for a potential opportunity in the rotation to open up.
