Jonesville girls bowling wins Cascades; Hornet girls take second in LCAA

HILLSDALE — Local bowlers took to the lanes to earn their conference medals and titles before preparing for the regional tournament. Several Hornets and Comets brought home medals, and one team even earned a league championship.

The Division 4 No. 1 ranked Jonesville girls bowling team brought home the Cascades Conference championship. The team also had two bowlers place in the top 10 singles standings. Mikayla DeBoe took eighth overall with games scores of 161-169-167-144-179-175 for a total of 995 and an average score of 165.83. Hallie James took seventh overall with game scores of 169-208-192-135-152-156 for a total of 1,012 pins and an average score of 168.67.

The singles champion title was won by Shandi Stark of Grass Lake. Placing in the top 20 for the Comet girls bowling team was Alaina Barrett in 18th and a score of 851, average of 141.83. In 16th was Harper James with a final total score of 895, with an average of 149.17. Haley Steveson took 14th with a total of 909 and an average of 151.5.

Over in the boys bowling championship, the Grass Lake team won the conference championship. However, Comet Andrew Sackett would bring home the individual title for the D4 No. 1 ranked Jonesville Comets. Sackett's games were 215-162-204-223-218-221 to average 207.1 for the day, and he led by 56 pins. He was the only bowler to average over 200 for the tournament and led the conference in average score with 216.9.

Earning top 12 medals in the Cascades boys singles for Jonesville was also Matt Woodruff, who took sixth overall with scores of 167-181-226-202-157-181 for a total of 1,114 pins, with an average score of 185.67. Taking eighth overall was Marshall Baker with scores of 186-181-196-179-163-170 for a total of 1,075 pins and an average score of 179.17.

Finishing just outside the top 12 was Jaren Trujillo in 13th overall with a final score of 1,015 and an average of 169.17. Alex Pickford took 20th overall with a final score of 985 and an average score of 164.17.

Next up for the Comets is the regional bowling tournament at JAX 60 in Jackson on Feb. 23.

Hillsdale girls bowling takes second in LCAA

Over in Hillsdale, the Hornet varsity bowlers battled for LCAA medals and all-conference honors. The Hornet took second overall as a team in the LCAA. In the tournament, they had Chloe Manifold finishing first for the Hornets. bowling 224, 193,203,225,227 games for a 1072 series.

Shalee Van Heerde finished second, bowling 221,145,214,201,202 games for a 983 series. Sage Wickham finished sixth, just missing medals, with 213,171,146,127,184 games for an 841 series.

Manifold finished second in the league with a game high of 258, second place for high series of 463, and first place for an average of 202. Manifold would earn first team all-conference. Shalee Van Heerde finished the year in fifth place with a high game of 221, fifth place for a high series of 409 and fourth place for a high average of 182. She also was named first team all-conference. Sage Wickham finished the year on second team all-conference. Ava Giminez took honorable mention all-conference.

The Hornet varsity boys bowling team finished as a team in the LCAA. In the tournament, Nolan Grant took first, bowling 248, 224, 242, 235, 237 games for a 1,186 series. Grant finished second in the league with a high game of 267, second place for high series of 471, and second place for a scoring average of 198, taking first team all-conference. Charles Macy finished the year in third place with a high game of 265. Alex Porrteus earned honorable mention all-conference.

Next up for the bowlers is the regional tournament, which take place in Lansing at Royal Scot on Thursday and Friday.
