John Sutherland's career-high 29 leads Bemidji State over Henderson State

for the 2023-24 season to start.
The Bemidji State men's basketball senior forward turned in one of the finest performances of his BSU tenure, notching a career-high 29 points and 13 rebounds to boot as the Beavers took down Henderson State 76-63 at the Central Region Challenge in Kansas City, Mo.
Bemidji State (1-0) led 39-35 at the half in its first game of the season but really separated from the Reddies in the second frame. The Beavers built an eight-point lead with Sutherland's jumper with 14:31 to go, then went up by 12 after two more Sutherland buckets. With 12:55 remaining, BSU managed the game from there, extending the lead by a point to notch a comfortable win.
Sutherland led Bemidji State in points with his career high, shooting an efficient 12-17 from the field. Johnny Tennyson added 18 points, and Dalton Albrecht chipped in 11 with 10 rebounds.
