John Sutherland named to D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team

Mar. 15—ST. PAUL — Bemidji State men's basketball junior John Sutherland was named to the 2023-24 D2CCA NCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-Central Region Second Team, the organization announced on Friday afternoon.

Sutherland is the first Beaver since Brock Lutes in 2013 to earn the All-Region accolade.

The Grand Rapids native led the Beavers in points per game (20.0) and assists per game (4.0). Appearing in 28 of the team's 29 games, Sutherland was 22nd in all of Division II with 559 points, second in field goals made (235), 26th in field-goal percentage (.573) and 37th in rebounds (222). Sutherland recorded 20 or more points in 15 games this season, including twice scoring 30 or more points.

He ended his junior season with 1,418 career points, including 39 points during his freshman season at Minnesota Duluth, and sits fifth all-time on the BSU program's career scoring list. He is also fourth on the program's all-time career rebounding list (640) and ninth in career assists (221).

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America and All-Region Basketball Teams are sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
