Joe Schoen focused on closing talent gap between Giants and Eagles
The New York Giants entered the 2022 season fully aware there were deficiencies on their roster. They were lacking personnel at several positions and their depth only furthered thinned out throughout the year.
Despite those issues, the Giants managed to compile a 9-7-1 record and make their first trip to the playoffs since 2016, defeating the Minnesota Vikings before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round.
The 38-7 beating at the hands of Philadelphia hammered home a tough reality: there is a significant talent gap between the Giants and Eagles, as well as the other NFC East teams.
This offseason, general manager Joe Schoen intends on closing that gap.

“We need to close that gap,” Schoen said.
The Giants finished 1-4-1 against the NFC East this past season and that’s certainly not enough to get things done. That also doesn’t include the playoff loss to Philadelphia, which showcased just how far behind New York currently is.
On the plus side, the Giants will have more salary cap health this offseason than in recent years and they also have a nice stockpile of picks in the 2023 NFL draft.
Tough decisions will need to be made on in-house free agents and how much money is spent, but Schoen & Co. are positioned well to add both talent and depth, effectively pulling themselves closer to the Eagles and Cowboys in terms of personnel.
