JJ Vaughan helps Jackson head coach Tim Debevec earn his 200th career victory on Friday

BOYS BASKETBALL

JACKSON 54, GLENOAK 42 JJ Vaughan scored 24 points for Jackson as the Polar Bears won their fourth consecutive game. It was also the 200th career win for Jackson head coach Tim Debevec.

Jackson (4-2, 2-1) outscored GlenOak in every quarter of the game.

Ja’Cory Lipkins led the Golden Eagles with 15 points.

GREEN 63, PERRY 31 Green outscored Perry 24-10 in the first quarter and never relinquished the advantage as the Bulldogs won a Federal League game on the road.

Zack Oddo hit three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points for Green (5-1, 2-1). The Bulldogs have now won three consecutive games.

Joel Brown led Perry with 10 points.

LAKE 49, HOOVER 40 A big fourth quarter helped Lake down Hoover on Friday. The Blue Streaks trailed by a point going into the final period before outscoring the Vikings 17-7 to win.

Cam Horning was the leading scorer for Lake with 17 points. Landyn Roth also had 16 points for the Blue Streaks.

Elijah Barker led Hoover with 20 points and nine rebounds.

LOUISVILLE 67, BOARDMAN 59 Louisville had two players surpass 20 points as the Leopards won their third straight game. The two players to surpass 20 points were Hayden Nigro with 24 points and Will Aljancic with 21 points.

Louisville is now 5-1 on the season.

Boardman also had two players score 20 points or more. They were Anthony Hightower with 22 points and Trey DePietro with 20 points.

MASSILLON 55, FITCH 51 Ardell Banks scored 16 points for Massillon to help the Tigers win at home. Massillon is now 2-1 overall.

Elijah Farrington also had 12 points for Massillon.

Allen Underwood was the leading scorer for Fitch with 19 points.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 78, ROOTSTOWN 61 Aquinas outscored Rootstown 45-28 in the second half as the Knights downed Rootstown on the road.

Julius Kimbrough led Aquinas with 20 points. Tayjon Grogan added 18 points. Moses O’Neal scored 15 points. Chris Tackett also scored 13 points for the Knights.

MINERVA 57, CARROLLTON 43 Brayden Costea poured in 30 points for Minerva as the Lions won on the road in Eastern Buckeye Conference play. Costea made seven field goals and was 13-of-16 from the foul line.

Connor Shingleton added 10 points for Minerva.

Carrollton had three players score in double figures. They were Micah Barkan with 12 points, Lincoln Mallarnee with 11 points and Brock Smith with 10 points.

TUSLAW 50, NORTHWEST 47 Ty Pratt and Troy Harbeitner scored 16 points each for Tuslaw as the Mustangs won for the third time in four games. Tuslaw is now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the PAC-7.

Goddard was the leading scorer for Northwest with 16 points. Stokes also had 14 points for Northwest. Northwest (3-4, 2-1) has now lost two games in a row.

FAIRLESS 61, MANCHESTER 60 Three Fairless players scored in double figures as the Falcons snapped Manchester’s two-game winning streak. Fairless (3-3, 1-2) has now won two games in a row.

The Falcons who scored in double figures were Brody Pumneo with 19 points, Tayler Buttermore with 16 points and Coltin Collucci with 10 points.

Manchester (4-4, 0-2) had four players score in double figures. They were Daniel Sensius with 19 points, Jordan Schindewolf with 14 points and Ben Noirot and Kenton Duty with 10 points apiece.

MALVERN 66, EAST CANTON 26 Michael Minor scored 19 points to help Malvern remain undefeated with a win on the road. Malvern improved to 5-0 and 3-0 in the IVC after the win.

KJ Thomas added 15 points for Malvern. Malvern jumped out to a 33-9 lead by halftime and never looked back.

Luke Riley was the leading scorer for East Canton with eight points.

TUSKY VALLEY 54, SANDY VALLEY 17 Silas Miller had 15 points for Tusky Valley to lead the Trojans to an IVC win on the road. Tusky Valley is now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the league after the win.

Connar Newsome and Logan Stotzer added 11 points each for Tusky Valley. Stotzer also had five steals.

Jordan Wigfield had five points to lead the Cardinals. Sandy Valley was held to seven points or less in each quarter.

Men’s basketball

MOUNT UNION 89, WILMINGTON 71 The Purple Raiders built a 53-24 halftime lead and cruised to their eighth in nine games. Christian Parker scored 24 points to lead five Mount Union players in double figures. Ethan Stanislawski finished with 20 points. Darrell Newsom scored 17 points. Christian Painter Jr. and Adam Chaney added 11 points apiece. Braedon Poole also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. The Purple Raiders shot 61.8% from the first half in building their big halftime lead. Mount Union was 12 of 24 from 3-point range.

WALSH 107, FRANCISCAN 71 Darryl Straughter moved into third place on Walsh’s career scoring list in the Cavaliers win over Franciscan on Thursday. Straughter hit five 3s and scored a game-high 21 points to increase his career total to 1,833 points. He moved past Cavs head coach Jeff Young, who scored 1,814 points during his Walsh career. Tim Smith Jr. and Brent Walker finished with 15 points apiece for the Cavs. Milan Square scored 12 points. Quentin Toles finished with 11 points. Owen Hazelbaker added 10 points and nine rebounds.
