Jimmies women's volleyball gets four-set win at Briar Cliff

Oct. 20—SIOUX CITY, Iowa. — The University of Jamestown got kills from eight different players in a four-set win (23-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-15) on Friday, Oct. 20, at the Chargers' Newman Flanagan Center.

The Chargers (7-20, 2-11) started the first set on an 8-5 run and held on from there, fighting through six ties to maintain the lead and get a 25-23 first-set win.

The Chargers kept it up early in the second set getting out to a 4-1 lead but the Jimmies (18-7, 11-1) responded to take their first lead since early in the first set with a run to take a 7-6 lead. The teams kept fighting from there as the teams were tied at 13 before a kill from the Jimmies' Logan Sherman kickstarted the No. 12-ranked team in the country who proceeded to go on a 12-2 run to end the set with a 25-15 win.

After they were down 11-10 in that second set, the Jimmies did not trail again until the Chargers got out to a 4-3 lead in the fourth set.

The Jimmies got out to a 12-2 lead in the second set and never let the Chargers get any life as they scored three of the last four points to get a 25-15 third set win.

The Chargers kept the early part of the fourth set tight taking a 5-3 lead before the Jimmies took the lead at 7-5 and continued to pull away from there stretching the lead out to 17-11 before the Chargers went on a mini-run to cut the deficit to 19-15. However, that was as close as they would get as the Jimmies finished the set on a 6-0 run to get a 25-15 fourth set win.

The win means the Jimmies have now won 18 games or more in every season since the 2006-07 season, a stretch of 18 years.

The Jimmies are back in action at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they take on Dordt University.
