Jimmies women's hoops extinguish the Flames in 87-52 win over CSM

Jan. 19—OMAHA, Neb. — The University of Jamestown women's basketball team outscored the College of Saint Mary 40-18 in the first half and that was enough to see them get an 87-52 win on Friday, Jan. 19, at the Flames' Lied Fitness Center.

The Jimmies (10-8, 6-6) scored the first points of the game and led wire to wire. The Flames did put up a fight early as they managed to tie the game up at six on a Madison Guzman jumper with 4:49 to go in the first quarter. However, the Jimmies' Samantha Paulsen knocked down a three to push her team in front 9-6, which started a 12-4 run over the remainder of the first quarter to head into the second with a 21-10 lead.

The Jimmies outscored the Flames 19-8 in the second quarter stretching the lead out to 40-18. In the second frame, the Jimmies shot exactly 50% from the field and had eight rebounds. The Jimmies forced the Flames into four turnovers and 2-for-11 shooting.

The halftime break did little to slow the Jimmies down as they hit a basket seven seconds into the third, immediately got a steal and hit another bucket to push the lead out to 45-18. The Jimmies would make their first five shots of the third and forced the Flames (1-16, 0-12) to miss their first eight shots of the quarter.

The Jimmies went down their bench to open the fourth quarter as they looked to put away their 41-point lead, as Jimmies head coach Thad Sankey put five new players out there to start the frame. In the fourth, the Jimmies' new five combined to score 17 points with the leader being Brenna Stroklund with eight points.

In total the Jimmies had 13 different players find the scoresheet and were led by Audrey Rodakowski's 17 points. The Flames had eight different players score with Tia Murray's 14 points leading the way.

The Jimmies return to the court at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, when they go to Morningside University.
