Jimmies softball split against Viterbo, Embry-Riddle

Mar. 9—TUSCON, Az. — The University of Jamestown opened its day with a 7-5 win over Viterbo University on Saturday, Feb. 9, on Diamond 1 at Lincoln Park.

The Jimmies scored in the bottom of the first when Mackenzie Lefebvre lined a ball under the glove of the shortstop and advanced to second on an error to score a run and make it 1-0. The V-Hawks (1-9) got one back in the top of the second to tie the game up at one before the Jimmies punched back with two more in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-1 lead.

The Jimmies added one more in the third to make it 4-1 and then exploded for a three spot in the bottom of the fourth to push the lead out to 7-1. The V-Hawks scored two runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-3 and then added two more in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-5.

The Jimmies returned to the field to face off against the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and were held to three hits in a 4-0 loss.

The Eagles (11-7) opened the scoring in the second on a double to make it 1-0. The Eagles added two more in the fourth including one on a solo shot by Diana Moranda Montana to head into the fifth up 3-0.

The Eagles tacked on one more in the fifth to put the game out of reach at 4-0. The Jimmies' (14-5) three hits came from Samarah Martinez, Kayla Quintanilla and Gracie Fisher.

The Jimmies return to the diamond at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, when they go to Birar Cliff University.
