Jimmie Johnson, seven-time NASCAR champ, commits to Daytona 500 as well as Brickyard, Phoenix

Jimmie Johnson has added three more races to his 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule, including a big opener right down the road.

With sponsorship from Carvana, the seven-time champ confirmed on Tuesday morning that he would take yet another crack at this year's Daytona 500 as well as participating in the Brickyard 400 and the championship race at Phoenix in November.

Johnson, a part-owner of Legacy Motor Club, which switched manufacturer allegiances from Chevrolet to Toyota this year, is now committed to running nine races in the No. 84 car.

“I’m so proud to represent Carvana for a second NASCAR season, and our fourth season overall as partners, at some of my favorite races,” Johnson said via statement. “Carvana is a fun brand that captures the joy of cars and racing and they do a great job leveraging their partnership with Legacy M.C. I’m excited to have a shot at another Daytona 500 trophy in our new Toyota Camry XSE’s, and the paint scheme is sure to be a fan favorite.”

Johnson ran in three races last year, finishing 31st in the Daytona 500 and coming home 38th at COTA and 37th in the Coca-Cola 600. He is a two-time winner of the Daytona 500, scoring victories in 2006 and 2013, and also won the 2013 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona as well.

Last year marked Johnson's first three NASCAR races since retiring after the 2020 season to pursue an IndyCar career.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Jimmie and Legacy M.C. for a second season,” said Ryan Keeton, Carvana Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer. “Jimmie is not only the true embodiment of a champion, as recognized by his Hall of Fame induction this year, he is also a leader on and off the track and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes this season.”
