Jean-Philippe Mateta addresses Crystal Palace future after remarkable turnaround in form

Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta says he will speak to the club about his future at the end of the season.

The striker has been in red-hot form since the appointment of Oliver Glasner, scoring 10 goals in 12 appearances under the Austrian.

Mateta is Palace’s top scorer this season with 13 goals in 24 Premier League starts and has formed an exciting frontline with teammates Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise at Selhurst Park.

It has been a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the 26-year-old, who was considering his options as recently as December amid interest from Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig and Real Betis.

The Frenchman, who joined the Eagles from Mainz in 2022, has two years left on his contract and has recently been linked with a move to Italian giants Napoli, should they lose Victor Osimhen this summer.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Mateta said when asked about his future at Palace: “I’m going to have an interview with the coach and the managers and we’ll see.”

On a potential call-up to the France squad for this summer’s European Championship, the forward added: “Les Bleus! It’s too important for me. I’m not going to hide, I’m thinking about the Euros. The French team is my number one goal, my childhood dream. I’ll look at the list.”

Standard Sport understands Palace are looking to strengthen at centre-back this summer, as well as at wing-back in the effort to find an understudy to Tyrick Mithcell.
