JayLynn Trapp rides left-handed hook ball to career-first 500 series at Dixie Bowl

JayLynn Trapp is the only bowler I know in both St. George and Mesquite who's flown an airplane, scuba dives, and when serving in the U.S. Army, did a tour as a prison guard at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

I know. You want more info on these. But we first need to take a look at her bowling.

For starters, Trapp is in her junior season of bowling in the Sunday Night Mixed League at Dixie Bowl where she bowled her first-ever 500 series, a 514. She bean league play with four strikes and five spares in a 182 game, followed with four more strikes and four spares in a 178, and next put together four spares and two strikes in a 154 game for a 514 series with a total of 11 strikes. And on the heels of her first 500 series, she navigated the lanes at Dixie for a 513 on games of 203, 159 and 151.

She's a left-handed bowler who throws a really nice hook ball and her next goal is pounding out a 600 series.

She can't wait for the weather to turn warmer as she loves going to Lake Powell with friends on the weekends where she enjoys boating, scuba diving and fishing for bass. And about the aforementioned flying of an airplane — she's done so before as part of the instruction in learning how to fly a plane from her fiance, Jordan Reddish.

And while serving in the Army for eight years, she did a tour in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where she was a guard at the prison used to house suspected terrorists captured during the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan.

Between multiple part-time jobs, Trapp is also a student at Utah Tech University with the goal of becoming a nurse. Visiting Scotland is at the top of the bucket list of countries she'd like to visit, and because her great-grandfather built Brighton Ski Resort, located not that many miles from Salt Lake City, she began skiing when she was two years old.

In other pin action, Susan Hill enjoyed an outstanding week with a 640 series in Dixie Queens League play, and followed a day later with a 599 which included clean games of 214 and 188, PJ Redhouse tossed 15 strikes along with clean games of 243 and 234 in a standout 636 effort, and Margie O'Neill's 624 was one of her four 600s on the week.

And Annette Chugg tattooed the pocket for 14 strikes and in 13 other frames KO'd 9 pins on her first ball as she finished with a 606 effort, Marcy Thompson (600-233) also delivered a 600, and Hailey Bundy's hard-hitting 587 included a 217 game and converting a 6-7-10 split.

Diana Stauffer's 543 included a 207, Diana Scharf spanked the lanes with a 543 pin count including a 202, and Marilyn Roberts is a retired teacher who peppered the lanes with a 500..

In men's action,  Shawn Wonder brought his strike ball to the party and promptly fired 23 strikes in his best outing this season, a 725 on games of 255, 246 and 224, Mo Davis is relentless in attacking the 1-3 pocket as he finished with an impressive clean 710 on games of 248, 246, 216, and John Potter continued running roughshod over the lanes with a 702 including 22 strikes and only one open frame.

And Scott Brosier merits ink for a standout 697 set and 269 game, Russ Harkins was back pounding the pocket with a  684 and 246 game, Michael Garcia fired 22 strikes in a first-rate 666 set and 243 game, Al Oliveira V (657-259) had a standout week, and Kyle Kidman punched out 22 strikes in a 657 outing, and Brent Carlon's 654 including 22 strikes and a clean 224.
