Is Jamaal Charles a good fit for the Broncos?

Chiefs

New Broncos running back Jamaal Charles signed with the team this past offseason to go with current running backs C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker. Picking up Charles is high risk, but also a high reward deal for the Broncos. Even though Charles has caused damage to opposing defenses, he has also done some damage to himself with injuries.

He was at one time one of the best backs in the league with his speed and his ability to make plays in the open field. He’s not that type of back anymore because of his injuries. The big question is if the Broncos made the right choice to sign him or not.

In his ten year career with the Kansas City Chiefs, Charles has rushed for 7,260 yards and 43 touchdowns but has also fumbled 21 times in his career. He did exceptional for the Chiefs, but it does not look like he will be putting up big numbers anymore. The last time Charles ran for over 1,000 yards was in 2014. He has torn his ACL in both of his knees which make him fragile.

Can he produce in Denver?

I don’t believe Charles will produce the way you think. While he still has some left in the tank, it’s running out and fast. He’s fragile because of his knee injuries and he’s older. C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker are both younger and their ceilings are higher than Charles’.

I believe he will have moments that help out the Broncos in games, but it most likely won’t be that much. He will more than likely be splitting reps with Anderson, but Booker could surprise all and surpass Charles. Overall, Charles will need to stay healthy and show us the running back we all know he can be.
