Jalen Ramsey of Dolphins needs surgery on knee, per reports

MIAMI GARDENS — Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey may miss the start of the season and will require knee surgery, according to multiple reports Thursday evening.

Ramsey was injured at the end of his second training camp practice as a Dolphin.

It's a meniscus injury and could be 6-8 weeks, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

But NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says he could be out until December.

Ramsey tweeted: "That end of the season push gon be legendary!"

Miami's first game is in six weeks and three days, at the Chargers.

Ramsey also tweeted: "I'll be back on that field stronger than ever... in due time. This SO minor for God's child!... I know my brothers gone hold it down until I'm back tho!"

If Ramsey misses the start of the season, rookie Cam Smith and second-year player Kader Kohou could line up alongside Pro Bowler Xavien Howard.

Smith is a first-round talent who slid to the second.

Kohou, a former undrafted prospect, was one of the top cover corners in the league by some metrics as a rookie.

It's possible Smith starts outside and Kohou starts in the slot. Nik Needham and Keion Crossen are among the corners providing depth.

Injured Jalen Ramsey was big off-season acquisition

The Dolphins acquired Jalen Ramsey in the offseason for Hunter Long and a third-round pick.

Miami then gave him a 3-year, $55 million restructured contract extension.

Among the unsigned cornerbacks, according to Spotrac: Eli Apple, Troy Hill, William Jackson, Bradley Roby, Casey Hayward, Kyle Fuller, Ronald Darby, Justin Coleman, Fabian Moreau, Bryce Callahan and Jason Verrett.

Among the receivers the Dolphins are scheduled to face in first 12 weeks: Keenan Allen/Mike Williams; Stefon Diggs; AJ Brown/DeVonta Smith; Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson.

Xavien Howard will get the call. He said this week he's still a number one corner in the league.
