Jalen Milroe Heisman Trophy odds: Alabama QB has same odds as USC's Caleb Williams

Alabama football quarterback Jalen Milroe hasn't been a superstar this season, but Crimson Tide fans have to be pleased with his development at the position over the course of the season.

Per BetMGM, the first-year starter now has the same Heisman Trophy odds as the reigning winner, USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams, the odds-on preseason favorite, has struggled in back-to-back losses to Notre Dame and Utah, respectively. While Milroe has been more efficient as of late, he's still not the caliber of player of Williams, who's likely to be taken first overall in the upcoming NFL draft.

But for Milroe to remotely be in the conversation for the award is a huge improvement from Alabama's quarterback situation earlier in the year, when he was benched for the USF game after committing two turnovers in the Crimson Tide's 34-24 loss to Texas in Week 2.

In No. 8 Alabama's 34-20 win over No. 20 Tennessee last weekend, Milroe completed 14 of 21 passes for 220 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also made use of his athleticism against the Vols, rushing several times for big gains (though he was credited only with three rushing yards after taking sacks into account).

The Katy, Texas, native didn't play in the Crimson Tide's 17-3 win over USF on Sept. 16 as Nick Saban opted to start Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner (who struggled in the game and was later replaced by former five-star recruit Ty Simpson).

Milroe then returned to the lineup against Ole Miss the next week, leading Alabama to a 24-10 win. Here's a look at Milroe's stats this season, and where he stacks in Heisman odds:
