Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence remains in concussion protocol, no timetable for return

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will remain in the NFL concussion protocol, per head coach Doug Pederson.

The Jaguars believe Lawrence was injured during the fourth quarter in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but he did not exit the game and took part in the post-game handshakes.

After the game, it was Lawrence who self-diagnosed himself, and after evaluation, he was placed into the protocol.

This puts Lawrence in jeopardy of missing Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a game essential to Jacksonville holding on to the AFC South lead.

“Trevor's in the protocol,” Pederson said. When asked further for an update and possible timetable, he couldn’t give one.

“I can’t, I’m not at liberty to speculate with head injuries,” he said.

Lawrence missed a game in college at Clemson in 2018 when he suffered concussion symptoms, but this is his first stint with it in the NFL.

Lawrence has never missed an NFL game despite having injury bouts this season with his knee and ankle. But if he can’t go, Jacksonville will turn to veteran backup CJ Beathard.

Lawrence had a forgettable outing against Baltimore. He completed 25 of 43 passes for 264 yards with a touchdown, however, he had two fumbles including an unforced one that came as Jacksonville was in the red zone.

It’s his second consecutive game with multiple turnovers after throwing three interceptions against the Cleveland Browns.
