The Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2021 season has been a huge disappointment, but the good thing is that they are at least eyeing the possibility of having the No. 1 overall pick (again), or at least a top-10 pick. In fact, currently there is one team ahead of them in the draft order in the Detroit Lions, who sit at a 1-10-1 record, giving them one less win than the Jags.

With bowl season arriving in the college football community, Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling posted a new mock draft for the 2022 season this week. In it, he slotted the Jags some help on the offensive line with the No. 2 overall pick by giving them the dominant Evan Neal out of Alabama to take over on Trevor Lawrence’s blindside, to the right tackle position.

When considering it’s been emphasized by many that Lawrence needs more help around him, this makes sense and would basically be a best player available type deal depending on what draft board fans go by. And while it wouldn’t help in terms of getting Lawrence a skill weapon, it would go a long way towards at least keeping Lawrence healthy, while getting James Robinson a lane paver if the Jags get back to using him properly.

Of course, there are questions that need to be answered when it comes to the selection of Neal, like the Jags’ future plans for Cam Robinson who is playing on the franchise tag. Also, what does the team do with second-round pick Walker Little, who the Jags drafted to protect Lawrence’s blindside this April?

Both are questions the front office has to answer, but if the key parts of 2021’s front office is no longer employed by the Jags, the next group would have no commitment to the players on the current roster. That would present a scenario where taking Neal makes sense, though going with edge-rushers Aiden Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeaux would make a lot of sense, too, regardless of who is making the decisions.
