Jacksonville State wants AHSAA Super 7 football championships, but there are obstacles

With the news the Alabama High School Athletic Association Super 7 football championships would be moving out of Tuscaloosa and Auburn, other options immediately popped up around the state.

One of those options could be Jacksonville State and the use of Burgess-Snow Field at JSU Stadium. According to Jax State Athletic Director Greg Seitz there have been discussions about hosting the Super 7 but there are scheduling conflicts that are currently in the way.

"Obviously, we have a long history of working with the AHSAA in hosting numerous events. We have had some preliminary discussions with the AHSAA regarding the Super 7, but there are some scheduling conflicts that currently doesn’t allow our facility to be available on their dates. We will continue to keep an open dialogue with the AHSAA regarding the Super 7," Seitz wrote in an email.

The biggest conflict would be the potential that Jax State could be hosting the Conference USA Championship game. The game is hosted by the regular season champion and is generally around the same time of the Super 7s. With it being based on regular season performance, it wouldn't be set until weeks before Super 7.

The AHSAA and Jax State have a long history as they have hosted the Northeast regional since 1994, when the AHSAA implemented the regional tournaments for basketball. The AHSAA baseball finals were moved to Jax State in 2021, they split host duties with Oxford. The last two years Jax State has helped to host softball finals after weather has altered the schedule.
