Jackson Henderson hits grand slam to lead Hillcrest to 6A state title to lead top performers

Here are the Tuscaloosa area top performers from the final week of spring sports, May 13-17, from high school golf, baseball and softball.

Softball

Hillcrest's Marti McCluskey went 8-for-14 in the state tournament, where the Patriots made it to the third round of the elimination bracket before falling to Gardendale 6-3.

Hillcrest's Jamie Hughley hit the game winning home run in the top of the eighth in the Patriots' 2-1 win over Oxford in the opening round.

Northside's Sarah Lee batted .500 with two RBIs in the 4A state softball tournament, which it fell 5-1 to Madison County and 6-4 to Brooks.

Winfield's Kennah Lacy threw a no-hitter in the Pirates' 10-0 win over Excel, going five innings and striking out three. Winfield was eliminated in the second round of the elimination bracket.

Baseball

American Christian Academy's Eric Hines went 5-for-8 in the 4A championship series with a triple, home run and two RBIs, which the Patriots losing 2-1 to Corner.

American Christian Academy's Addison Goodman pitched a complete Game 1, striking out seven batters and allowing two runs, one earned, off of four hits.

Hillcrest's Evan Williams pitched a complete game in a 14-3 victory over Hartselle in Game 1 of the 6A championship series, giving up three runs — two earned — on seven hits and striking out six. From the plate, he went 2-for-3 with five RBIs.

Hillcrest's Kahden Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBIs while Noah Latham went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in Game 1.

Hillcrest's Jackson Henderson went 3-for-4 with four RBIs from the plate in Game 3 of the 6A championship series, which Hillcrest won 7-6 to win the 6A state title. Henderson also started on the mound for the Patriots in Game 3, pitching 5⅔ innings, allowing six runs off of seven hits and striking out five. He was named the 6A tournament MVP.

Hillcrest's Brooks Tunnel went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 3 of the championship series.

Decathlon

Northridge's William Numnum won the AHSAA Boys' Decathlon with a total score of 6,494.

Boys golf

The Demopolis boys finished as the 5A runner-up at the state tournament with a team score of 52-over.

Demopolis's Brantley Rice tied for fifth place in the individual 5A tournament with a score of 10-over.

Demopolis' Hunter Powell finished tied for 10th with a score of 14-over.

The Northridge boys finished in third at the 6A state tournament with a team score of 13-over.

Northridge's Caleb Terrell tied for seventh place, shooting 2-over in the individual competition.

Northridge's Jace Duckworth took home 11th place with a score of 3-over.

The Fayette County boys finished in fourth place at the 3A state tournament with a team score of 26-over.

Fayette County's Luke Anderson finished tied for sixth place at the 3A state tournament with a score of 9-over.

Winfield's Elliot Overton finished tied for sixth place at the 3A state tournament with a score of 9-over.

Girls golf

Brookwood's Ella Roberts finished 22-over for a 12th place finish at the 6A state tournament.

Northridge's Rilee Hilliker finished shooting 11-over for a seventh-place finish at the 6A state tournament.

Sipsey Valley's Rebecca Pearce finished in 13th place in the 6A tournament, shooting 30-over.

The Tuscaloosa Academy girls won the 1A-3A state title with a score of 21-over. They had the lowest score in the team competition across all classifications.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Anna Christian Beeker finished third individually in the 1A-3A state tournament, firing 2-over par.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Saxon Skinner shot 6-over for a fifth-place finish, while Maddie Grace Johnson finished tied for sixth shooting 13-over and Kat Taylor finished 32-over, tying for 12th place.
