Here are Jackson area high school football top performers from Week 1 of the 2023 season:
Offense
Carson Howell, Bolivar Central: Howell was 9-of-11 passing for 150 yards and three touchdowns in a 50-6 victory over Fayette-Ware. He also ran for 115 yards on 13 attempts and two TDs.
Kolton Crochet, Gleason: Crochet was 8-of-13 passing for 169 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-20 victory over Fulton County (Ky.).
Gage Byington, Gleason: Byington had 87 receiving yards, 50 rushing yards and accounted for three touchdowns.
Aiden Legens, Gleason: Legens carried the ball 12 times for 117 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, he had six tackles, including two for loss, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Drake Lovell, Gleason: Lovell ran the ball for 148 yards on 14 attempts.
Carter Smith, Hardin Co.: Smith was 11-of-14 passing for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-12 victory over Memphis Business Academy. He also ran for a TD.
Ryan Weaks, Hardin Co.: Weaks caught four passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.
Kamron Haymon, Hardin Co.: Haymon had two rushing touchdowns.
London Rose, Hardin Co.: Rose had two touchdown receptions.
Jacob Saunders, Hardin Co.: Saunders ran for 100 yards on 14 carries.
Austin Kelley, Jackson Christian: Kelley was 15-of-21 passing for 191 yards and three touchdowns in a 21-14 victory over Northpoint.
Jaylen Mosley, Jackson Christian: Mosley had 12 catches for 157 yards and three touchdowns.
Jackson Overton, McNairy Central: Overton ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-14 victory over Humboldt. He also had two TD passes.
Kelyn Pittman, North Side: Pittman carried the ball 21 times for 88 yards in a 39-15 loss to Crockett Co.
Hamilton May, Obion Co.: May was 10-of-11 passing for 209 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-14 victory over Lake County. He also ran for 119 yards and a TD.
Kweli Purifoy, Obion Co.: Purifoy caught seven passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
DJ Smith, Peabody: Smith ran the ball 27 times for 144 yards and a touchdown in a 14-7 loss to USJ.
Desmond Thomas, Riverside: Thomas carried the ball 25 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-14 loss to Collierville. Defensively, he had eight tackles.
Lekhy Thompkins, Trinity Christian: Thompkins had 175 rushing yards on 39 carries and three touchdowns in a 27-20 victory over Chester Co.
Noah Spencer, USJ: Spencer ran the ball 25 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns in a 14-7 victory over Peabody. Defensively, he added an interception.
Jayden Milton, West Carroll: Milton ran the ball 24 times for 294 yards and five touchdowns in a 45-28 victory over Gibson County.
Miles Vincent, Westview: Vincent was 16-of-28 passing for 424 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-34 loss to Dresden.
Donteze Joy, Westview: Joy caught eight passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had five tackles.
Cam Davis, Westview: Davis had 105 yards of total offense and a receiving touchdown. Defensively, he added three tackles, a forced fumble and a sack.

Jake Steele, Bolivar Central: Steele had 11 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in a 50-6 win against Fayette-Ware. He also rushed for a touchdown.
Brody Sanders, Gleason: Sanders had five tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in a 48-20 win against Fulton County (Ky.).
Hayden Tidwell, Hardin Co.: Tidwell had six solo tackles in a 48-12 win against Memphis Business Academy.
Sam Tanner, Hardin Co.: Tanner had four solo tackles, including two for loss.
Kai Wyatt, Jackson Christian: Wyatt had 12 total tackles, including three for loss, and forced a fumble in a 21-14 win against Northpoint.
Trent Carrier, Jackson Christian: Carrier had seven total tackles and an interception.
Tyler Montgomery, McNairy Central: Montgomery had seven tackles in a 33-14 win against Humboldt.
Brodie Buck, McNairy Central: Buck had five tackles.
Christian Maholmes, North Side: Maholmes had five solo tackles and 10 assists in a 39-15 loss to Crockett Co.
Justus Simmons and Cortez Manley, North Side: Simmons and Manley combined for 12 solo tackles and four assists. Manley also had a rushing touchdown and a fumble recovery.
Paeton Denton, Eli Lewis and Ja’Quan Kinney, Peabody: The Golden Tide trio each had five total tackles in a 14-7 loss to USJ.
Keeton Evans, Parker Wilks and Jack Camper, Riverside: The Panther trio had six tackles apiece in a 35-14 loss to Collierville.
