Jackson area girls basketball ranking: Why Scotts Hill entered top 10

One week remains for West Tennessee’s girls basketball teams before the postseason begins.

Brackets are expected to be released as the regular season comes to an end.

For now, it’s time to rank the top 10 teams in West Tennessee. Here is the latest top-10 West Tennessee girls basketball ranking.

1. Gibson County (28-1): Micah Hart has helped the Pioneers cruise through district play, winning each game by double digits. Hart had a big game with 23 points in Friday’s win over South Gibson. Last week: No. 1. This week: vs. Peabody (6 p.m., Tuesday).

2. USJ (17-7): Haylen Ayers and the Bruins have continued to roll with their ever-improving ball movement and strong defense. USJ has locked up the No. 1 seed in the district tournament with an 8-0 record. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. TCA (6 p.m., Tuesday).

3. Chester County (21-3): Jariyah Williamson and the Eagles saw their impressive 17-game win streak come to an end against McNairy Central – but Chester County bounced back to maintain a one-game lead in District 12. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. Hardin County (6 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Lexington (6 p.m., Friday).

4. Dyersburg (20-3): Joya Crawford and the Trojans have won 12 of their previous 13 games, with the last four coming by double digits – including a season sweep of rival Dyer County. Last week: No. 5. This week: at South Gibson (6 p.m., Tuesday), vs. South Gibson (6 p.m., Saturday).

5. South Side (17-6): Jaidynn Askins notched a double-double in Saturday’s win over Lexington and had a big night in the cross town rivalry game against North Side to lead the Hawks to their sixth victory in eight games. Last week: No. 6. This week: at Lexington (6 p.m., Tuesday), at North Side (6 p.m., Thursday), at McNairy Central (6 p.m., Friday).

6. McKenzie (12-5): Savannah Davis and the Rebels are beginning to play their best basketball at the right time having won six games in a row and seven of their last eight. The final week will be brutal with four games. Last week: No. 9. This week: vs. Big Sandy (6 p.m., Monday), at Milan (6 p.m., Tuesday), vs. Houston County (6 p.m., Thursday), at Big Sandy (6 p.m., Friday).

7. Huntingdon (20-5): Despite a loss to McKenzie, Lilly Kee has continued to put on a show for the Mustangs, anchoring the frontcourt while leading the offense. Last week: No. 3. This week: at Stewart County (6 p.m., Monday), at Union City (6 p.m., Thursday).

8. Jackson Christian (17-6): Gibson Boykin has helped put the Eagles in a position to win five of their last six games, with the one loss coming against USJ after the week-long winter layoff. Last week: No. 9. This week: vs. Fayette Academy (6 p.m., Tuesday).

9. Westview (16-4): McCall Sims dropped 20 points in Tuesday’s loss to Gibson County, but the Chargers have bounced back following each one of their losses this season – including a two-point win over Peabody on Friday. Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Ripley (6 p.m., Monday), at Ripley, (6 p.m., Tuesday), at Peabody (6 p.m., Friday).

10. Scotts Hill (15-6): Julie Hampton and Emma Wright are consistently in double figures to lead the Lions’ offense. Scotts Hill has won 10 of its last 11 games, all but one by double digits. Last week: Not ranked. This week: vs. Jackson Central-Merry (6 p.m., Monday), at Madison (6 p.m., Tuesday), at Jackson Central-Merry (6 p.m., Friday), at Riverside (6 p.m., Saturday).
