Sources: Play that injured Ja Morant will not be reviewed further by NBA; Morant likely out Monday

SAN FRANCISCO — Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant likely will miss Game 4 on Monday with a knee injury, head coach Taylor Jenkins said Sunday.

Jenkins said Morant is undergoing further evaluation on his right knee. The Grizzlies officially listed Morant as “doubtful” with right knee soreness.

Jenkins said Sunday that Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman and the league office have been in contact regarding the play. Jenkins reiterated Sunday Morant was injured on a play involving the Warriors' Jordan Poole. There will be no further review on the play, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Morant was injured late in the Grizzlies’ 142-112 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 on Saturday. With under 7 minutes left in the game, he limped off the court during a timeout and was looked at on the bench. He went to the locker room and did not return.

Jenkins said after the game Morant was injured on a play involving Poole.

“He was going after a dribble and Jordan Poole actually grabbed his knee and yanked it, which kind of triggered whatever happened,” Jenkins said. “So I’m actually going to be very curious to see what happens after that.”

Morant did not speak with media Saturday. He tweeted then deleted the video of the play with the caption “broke the code,” a reference to Warriors coach Steve Kerr saying Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks’ flagrant 2 foul that injured Gary Payton II “broke the code.”

Brooks earned a one-game suspension and missed Saturday’s game. Payton will miss the remainder of the series with a fractured elbow.

Kerr said they did not see what preceded Morant’s injury. Poole said it was a basketball play and that he was going for the ball, saying, “I respect everybody.”

Game 4 is 10 p.m. ET Monday at Chase Center. The Warriors lead 2-1.
