A regularly used reserve across IU coach Mike Woodson’s first three games, Galloway was injured Wednesday night when St. John’s guard Montez Mathis fouled him on a layup attempt.

In the latter part of the first half, Galloway stole an inbounds pass and took the ball to the rim for a layup. Rising to stop him, Mathis appeared to grab or hook onto Galloway’s arm. The angle of Mathis’ body, the force of his contact and his apparent unwillingness to release Galloway left Galloway unable to adequately protect himself as he fell.

Referees reviewed the play and conferred for several minutes before calling a flagrant foul. In declaring it the more severe of two possible flagrants, officials also ejected Mathis from the game, as per the penalty for a flagrant two.

Galloway’s absence will be felt on a bench that has impressed in the early part of Woodson’s first season in charge in Bloomington. Woodson could turn to players like Khristian Lander and Anthony Leal for added depth in Galloway’s absence.
