Islanders Injury Tracker: Noah Dobson 'ready to go' for Game 1 vs. Hurricanes

Islanders head coach Patrick Roy said defenseman Noah Dobson is "ready to go" for the team's Game 1 matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday afternoon.

Dobson was finally able to return to the ice for Friday morning's practice alongside his teammates after he missed the final two games of the regular season.

The blueliner suffered the injury just three shifts into New York's 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens last week.

Getting Dobson back on their top defensive pairing would be a huge boost for the Isles, as he recorded a career-high 60 assists through 78 games this season.

Apr. 11, 10:30 p.m.

Defenseman Noah Dobson will be evaluated after suffering an upper-body injury during Thursday's massive 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens.

It's still unknown what exactly caused the injury, but Dobson played just three shifts (1:28) before heading to the locker room for the remainder of the contest.

The Islanders are buzzing right now, having propelled themselves into a playoff spot with six straight wins, but losing their top defenseman for any amount of time would be a huge blow.

Dobson's been incredible this season as he currently sits fifth in the league among defensemen with 60 assists across 78 games this season.

Jan. 25, 6:45 p.m.

Left winger Matt Martin will not play on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens as the team announced he is sick.

The 34-year-old is considered day-to-day. His next chance to suit up is on Saturday night when the Islanders face the Florida Panthers at UBS Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Jan. 16, 8:00 p.m.

Pierre Engvall, who was out of the Islanders lineup for Tuesday's matchup with the Winnipeg Jets, is day-to-day due to an upper-body injury.

Engvall has struggled after signing a seven-year deal this offseason.

The veteran winger, who logged 15 minutes of ice time in Monday's shutout loss to the Wild, has just one point over his last 17 games and a total of 14 on the season.

Oliver Wahlstrom took Engvall's place in the lineup for Tuesday's contest.

Jan. 11, 5:42 p.m.

Casey Cizikas is out for the Islanders with a lower-body injury sustained against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday and is considered week-to-to-week.

New York elected not to place Cizikas on injured reserve, but the center will miss some time for the foreseeable future, including Thursday's matchup with the Maple Leafs.

The 32-year-old's injury occurred in the first period against the Canucks. He tried playing through it in the second period, but was unable to and left the game.

Jan. 2, 9:40 p.m.

Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov left Tuesday night's matchup against the Colorado Avalanche late in the first period due to an apparent injury.

The veteran netminder was slow to get up after making a save with just over five minutes remaining in the opening frame and he was eventually replaced by starter Ilya Sorokin.

Varlamov previously suffered an injury in the third period of third period of last week loss to the Penguins. After missing a few days of practice, the 35-year-old backed up Sorokin for their New Year Eve, before making his short-lived return tonight. 

Prior to the injury, the game was tied 1-1 and Varlamov had stopped 11 of the 12 shots he'd faced.

Dec. 31, 11:45 a.m.

Scott Mayfield is expected to return to the Islanders lineup for Sunday evening's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins after being activated from injured reserve.

Mayfield has missed the last eight games after taking a puck off his finger in New York's overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this month.

The defenseman made the roadtrip with the team, and after practicing with the team over the past few days he appears ready to make his return. 

It's been a bit of a rough start to the season for Mayfield, who also missed seven games earlier this year due to a lower-body injury suffered in the season opener.

Dec. 30, 2:00 p.m.

The Islanders have transferred defenseman Ryan Pulock to long-term injured reserve.

Pulock, who is dealing with a lower-body injury, has already missed the majority of the minimum 10 games or 24 days so he is eligible to return to the club whenever he is healthy.

This move doesn't clear the Islanders a roster spot to work with, since Pulock was already on standard IR, but it does give them financial flexibility to make roster moves.

Pulock has two goals, six points, 37 blocks and 66 hits in 25 games played this season.

Dec. 29, 1:45 p.m.

Islanders backup goaltender Semyon Varlamov is day-to-day, head coach Lane Lambert said hours before New York's game against the Washington Capitals.

"He's not in tonight," Lambert said. "He's day-to-day."

Kenneth Appleby bumps up behind starter Ilya Sorokin.

"Very confident," Lambert said of Appleby, who is 5-4 with an 89.8 save percentage in 10 games with the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders this season. "He's played well down there, so we'll see. We'll see what happens."

Lambert added that New York has not yet "determined" Varlamov's travel status for the Islanders' four-game road trip, which begins on New Year's Eve at the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In 13 games this season, Varlamov is 6-4 with two shutouts and a 91.8 save percentage.

Varlamov replaced Sorokin in the third period of a 7-0 loss to the Penguins Dec. 27.

Dec. 22, 5:30 p.m.

Julien Gauthier returned to practice Friday for the Islanders and he is expected to be available for tomorrow night's matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Gauthier missed New York's game on Wednesday against the Washington Capitals, a 3-2 overtime loss, due to an undisclosed upper-body issue.

The 26-year-old is officially back healthy, but there is a chance he remains a healthy scratch in favor of Oliver Wahlstrom, who played 11 minutes in his place the other night.

Gauthier has two goals, three assists and 29 hits through 14 games this season. 

Dec. 12, 12:50 p.m.

The Islanders placed veteran winger Matt Martin back on injured reserve due to a lingering upper-body injury, the team announced on Tuesday.

Martin hasn't appeared in a game since the middle of November.

The 34-year-old had been practicing with the team since being activated from his original IR stint two weeks ago, but he wasn't cleared to return to the lineup.

Instead, he now lands back on IR in a move retroactive to Dec. 2.

Martin has just two points on the season, but he's been a consistent and reliable fourth-line winger throughout his 13-year career.

Dec. 8, 4:10 p.m. 

The Islanders placed defenseman Ryan Pulock on the injured reserve with a lower body injury on Friday, the team announced.

Pulock, 29, has two goals, six points, 37 blocks and 66 hits in 25 games this season.

Nov. 24, 12:00 p.m.

Defenseman Adam Pelech has been placed on long-term injured reserve after leaving Friday night's game against the Ottawa Senators due to an upper-body injury.

Pelech remained down and eventually left the ice holding his wrist alongside trainers after being on the receiving end of a Drake Bastherson hit just 2:23 into the game's opening period.

The veteran blueliner was quickly ruled out and now he'll be sidelined a minimum of 10 games and 24 days. 

Additionally, scrappy veteran winger Matt Martin has been placed on standard injured reserve (retroactive to Nov. 15) due to an upper-body injury of his own.
