Islanders baseball heads to Lake Charles for Southland Conference tournament

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team heads to Lake Charles needing a win to get into the main bracket of the Southland Conference baseball tournament after finishing the regular season as the league's No. 7 seed.

In their way is host McNeese, which grabbed the No. 6 seed. The two schools will play in a single-elimination game at Joe Miller Ballpark on Tuesday with the winner advancing into the double-elimination portion of the bracket beginning on Wednesday.

The Islanders finished the regular season 24-29 and 12-12 in Southland play. The winner will play regular season No. 1 seed Nicholls at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Colin Purcell captured his second Southland Conference pitcher of the week honors this season on Sunday after throwing a complete game allowing three runs (two earned), scattering eight hits with seven strikeouts in an 8-3 win against UIW. The junior improved to 5-6 on the season with the win.
