Iowa women's basketball coaching staff visits Peoria High

When you have one of the most talented girls basketball players in Illinois, colleges take notice.

The Peoria High girls basketball program recently got a personal visit on Tuesday from the coaching staff of the University of Iowa women's team, according to a social media post made by Peoria High.

Iowa coach Lisa Bluder and her staff were pictured sitting in folding chairs courtside during a recent open gym at Peoria High School, located at 1615 N. North Street.

Iowa is on the final list of five possible college destinations for Peoria High's all-state guard Aaliyah Guyton, along with Illinois, Nebraska, Michigan State and Pittsburgh. Guyton, who was named the 2023 Journal Star Girls Basketball Player of the Year, helped lead the Lions to a Class 3A third-place finish this past March.

The Hawkeyes went 31-7 last season behind sensational guard Caitlin Clark, who led the Hawkeyes to the national championship game.
