Iowa State wrestling takes care of business, defeats Cal Baptist in dominant fashion

It didn't matter to Iowa State wrestling that there was no power in the building while warming up for its dual at Cal Baptist on Sunday, as the Cyclones rolled to a 39-3 victory over the Lancers.

Iowa State brought the electricity with them to California, racking up five bonus-point victories. In total, Iowa State won nine of 10 matches, two by fall, three by technical fall and four by decision.

Iowa State's 157-pound freshman Cody Chittum capped off a stellar weekend, defeating his opponent 30-11 for a technical fall to open the dual. After defeating the No. 4 wrestler in the class on Friday against Arizona State, Chittum looks to be figuring things out in college wrestling after an up-and-down start to his freshman season.

Following Chittum, 165-pound senior David Carr continued to show why's he one of the best in the country by pinning Timothy Cowan in 2:02. Now up to 106 career victories, 61 of those have been bonus-point wins (23 by major decision, 20 by technical fall and 18 by pin).

The Cyclones rolled in the following five matches, highlighted by 125-pound senior Kysen Terukina winning 4-2 over Elijah Griffin, who was ranked to begin the year.

The lone loss of the day for Iowa State was at 133 pounds by Ethan Perryman to Hunter Leake (3-0 decision), capping off a 0-2 weekend for the redshirt freshman. Redshirt freshman Evan Frost was the projected starter heading into the trip out west for Iowa State, but did not wrestle against Arizona State or Cal Baptist.
