Iowa State women's basketball suffers second Big 12 loss despite career night from Audi Crooks

The Iowa State women's basketball team rolled through the start of the Big 12 Conference season, but the Cyclones are quickly finding out how difficult life in the league can be.

Iowa State suffered its second Big 12 loss in seven days as the Cyclones fell to host Kansas, 60-58, on Wednesday night.

Audi Crooks scored a career-high 25 points for the Cyclones, who fell to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 play. Iowa State also got 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists from Addy Brown.

The loss is the second straight game the Cyclones have dropped. They suffered their first Big 12 loss at Texas Tech on Jan. 17. Their next game, scheduled to take place on Jan. 20, against TCU was canceled due to the Horned Frogs not having enough players. That resulted in a TCU forfeit and a conference win for the Cyclones.

Iowa State freshman center Audi Crooks had a career-high 25 points in Wednesday's loss to Kansas.

But Iowa State, which jumped out to a strong start in league play and turned into one of the biggest surprise stories in the Big 12, has now struggled in back-to-back road losses. Still, the Cyclones were there right up until the bitter end.

Crooks, who tallied eight rebounds, was a big reason why, shooting 10-of-23 from the field on her way to the big night.

Wednesday's game included 11 ties and 24 lead changes. Iowa State even led late in the fourth quarter on a Crooks layup with 2:15 remaining. But Kansas retook the lead and Iowa State missed a game-tying 3-pointer by Hannah Belanger with 10 seconds remaining to seal the loss.
