Iowa dominating in-state recruiting with 6 of top 7 2024 recruits already Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes currently sit at ESPN’s No. 14 recruiting class for 2024 and that is largely in part to the success they are having in the state of Iowa. The Hawkeyes dominate their in-state recruiting with the best of them and that is no different here.
The 2024 class sees the Hawkeyes littered among the top 10 recruits from Iowa. The Hawkeyes have received commitments from six of the top seven prospects per 247Sports already.

With the new era of NIL deals and the transfer portal, recruiting high school talent has not only become immensely different than it was just five years ago, but even a bit more difficult. Now, there is competition among transfers, junior college players, and the always present NIL money involved.

Derek Weisskopf is a safety at the moment that projects as a linebacker at the next level. With his height of 6-foot-3, he can add to his frame. He has shown the ability to play in the alleys and come down with force in the run game.

Cody Fox has a build that stands out on tape. He simply looks ready for the next level when compared to others. A mauler in the run game, Fox could be a welcome addition as he can pull and drive defenders with a nasty streak.

Cam Buffington is a lanky linebacker that understands space in the middle of the field. He has an innate understanding of the passing game and the closing speed in the run game. Add some size to his frame and he fits the mold of an Iowa middle linebacker.

Preston Ries gives a bit of a Cooper DeJean feel. On the field, he is the most athletic player when you turn on the tape. He is a football player out there through and through. His skillset could translate to a speedy, sideline-to-sideline outside linebacker that can run with backs and tight ends.

The Hawkeyes have offered all of the remaining top ten minus Jacob Simpson which may appear a tad odd on the surface being a tight end, but the Hawkeyes’ roster is currently loaded at that position.
Brix, Vander Zee, and Cram are in communication with Iowa and 247Sports shows all of their interest in Iowa among the top schools. Iowa has every chance to land these recruits and genuinely own the top ten in the state.
