Introducing The News-Press 2023 Girls All-Area Cross Country Team
At the end of each season, The News-Press selects All-Area teams honoring the best athletes for every sport. Coaches from area schools are sent nomination forms and are asked to nominate and rate their athletes as well as those from other teams. That data combined with The News-Press' research led to the selection of the All-Area teams.
FIRST TEAM
Mackenzie De Lisle
School: Bishop Verot
Year: Junior
Highlights: De Lisle ran under 18 minutes four times this season capped by a 17:52.2 to place second in Class 2A, She also placed second at district and regionals and became the first girl to repeat as Private 8 champion.
Gianna Del Pizzo
School: Lehigh
Year: Senior
Highlights: Del Pizzo did a lot of winning this season, taking the LCAC, District 4A-4, and Region 4A-4 titles, and was among the leaders in the last 100 yards at the Class 4A state meet.
Masha Dorofeev
School: Fort Myers
Year: Junior
Highlights: Dorofeev was the runner-up at LCAC before winning the district title. She added a third place at the regional before taking 7th in Class 3A with a time of 18:45.
Jazlyn Forbes
School: Oasis
Year: Sophomore
Highlights: Forbes won four races with a 17:41.3 PR at the Lely meet, took third in the district and regional races before placing sixth in Class 2A with a time of 18:38.
Gianna Gyurich
School: Bishop Verot
Year: Freshman
Highlights: The newcomer took third at the Private 8 meet, fourth in the district, and sixth at regional before placing 31st in Class 2A with a time of 19:44.
Riley McFarland
School: Cape Coral
Year: Senior
Highlights: McFarland was third at the conference meet, fifth at district, ninth in the region, and finished 50th in Class 3A with a time of 20:14.
Avery Sommers
School: Estero
Year: Junior
Highlights: She placed fourth at LCAC, fifth at the district meet, and eighth at regionals before placing 29th in Class 2A with a time of 19:42.8.

School: Bishop Verot
Highlights: Stowell guided the Vikings to a Private 8 championship and the District 2A-6 title, a runner-up finish in Region 2A-3 after a tiebreaker, and fourth place in Class 2A.
