Introducing the Herald-Tribune 2023 All-Area Boys Cross Country Team
At the end of each season, The Herald-Tribune selects All-Area teams honoring the best athletes for every sport. Coaches from Sarasota and Manatee county schools are sent nomination forms and are asked to nominate and rate their athletes as well as those from other teams. That data combined with The Herald-Tribune's research led to the selection of the All-Area teams.
First Team
Austin Biller
School: Sarasota
Year: Junior
Highlights: Biller finished 68th at the Class 4A State Meet in 16:41. He ran 16:55 to finish 15th at the Tri-County Meet. He had a personal-best 16:30 at the Class 4A-District 4 Meet.
Grayson Cicilloni
School: Sarasota
Year: Sophomore
Highlights: Cicilloni finished 18th at the Class 4A State Meet in 16:46. Ran a personal-best 16:23 at the Tri-County Meet.
Dawson Clark
School: Sarasota
Year: Senior
Highlights: Clark finished 163rd at the Class 4A State Meet in 17:49. He ran a personal-best 16:40 at the Tri-County Meet.
Declan Fiorucci
School: Out-of-Door Academy
Year: Senior
Highlights: Fiorucci finished 22nd in the Class 1A State Meet in 16:33. He ran a personal-best 16:05 at the Tri-County Meet.
Kevin Gyurka
School: Out-of-Door Academy
Year: Sophomore
Highlights: Gyurka finished 35th at the Class 1A State Meet. He ran a personal-best 16:10 at the Tri-County Meet.
Cole Homer
School: Sarasota
Year: Senior
Highlights: Homer ran 16:26 at the Tri-County Meet. He ran a personal-best 15:58 at the North Port Invitational.
Isidro Iturralde
School: Out-of-Door Academy
Year: Junior
Highlights: Iturralde finished 69th at the Class 1A State Meet in 17:31. Ran a personal-best 16:51 at the Tri-County Meet.
Jonathan Leatt
School: Lakewood Ranch
Year: Junior
Highlights: Leatt ran a season-best 16:15 at the North Port Invitational. He finished 17th in the 4A-District 4 Meet in 17:03 and 73rd in the 4A-Region 2 Meet in 18:46.
Patrick McDonald
School: Venice
Year: Junior
Highlights: McDonald ran 16:51 at the Tri-County Meet. Ran a personal best 16:41 at the Class 4A-District 4 Meet.
Vicente Rivera
School: Lakewood Ranch
Year: Junior
Highlights: Rivera ran a personal-best 16:29 at the Tri-County Meet. He finished 10th in the Class 4A-District 4 Meet in 16:36 and 29th in the 4A-Region 2 Meet in 17:28.
Ben Skaggs
School: Riverview
Year: Junior
Highlights: Skaggs finished 61st at the Class 4A State Meet in 16:38. He ran a personal-best 16:15 at the Tri-County Meet.
Paul Svilokos
School: Cardinal Mooney Catholic
Year: Junior
Highlights: Svilokos finished 65th at the Class 2A State Meet in a personal-best 17:26. He finished 24th at the Class 2A-District 6 Meet in 18:21 and 11th in the 2A-Region 3 Meet in 17:29.
COACH OF THE YEAR
John Stevenson
School: Sarasota
Highlights: Guided the Sailors to a 22nd finish at the Class 4A State Meet. Sarasota finished fourth in the 4A-Region 2 meet and third in the 4A-District 4 Meet.
