Colorado State women's basketball coach Ryun Williams has signed a contract extension through 2027.

Ryun Williams has signed a contract extension through the 2026-27 college basketball season.

The school announced the move for the Colorado State women's basketball coach on Tuesday, extending his current deal.

“It is an absolute privilege to be Colorado State’s head women’s basketball coach and I am very honored and humbled to receive this extension," Williams said in a news release. "I look forward to the continual challenge of building a championship program and a perennial contender in the Mountain West."

Here are the key terms of the contract.

Ryun Williams' compensation as CSU women's basketball coach

Williams' base salary for the 2023-24 year (beginning July 1, 2023) will be $275,000.

For the three remaining years of the contract, his base salary will be the prior year's salary plus the percentage increase provided to employees across the university. As an example, the contract says that if there is a 3% increase in 2025, Williams' salary would be $275,000 plus the $8,250 increase for a base salary of $283,250.

Bonus for NCAA Tournaments, more

The contract includes many bonuses based on the program's success, so long as the team remains in good standing in regard to academic scores and NCAA rules:

  • Win either the conference regular season or tournament championship (only one bonus can be earned in a season): $25,000

  • Finish second or third in the conference regular season standings: $7,500

  • Qualify for the NCAA Tournament: $30,000

  • Qualify for the secondary postseason tournament offered by the NCAA (expected to begin in 2024): $10,000

  • Advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament: $30,000

  • Advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament: $30,000

  • Advance to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament: $30,000

  • Win the NCAA Tournament: $50,000

The incentives are cumulative, meaning a run to the Elite Eight would garner bonuses for qualifying for the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16 and advancing to the Elite Eight.

Exit fee for Ryun Williams

If Williams leaves CSU for another coaching job between now and March 15, 2026, he would owe the school $50,000. The buyout drops to zero after March 15, 2026.

Ryun Williams' resume

Williams has been CSU's coach for 11 seasons, going 212-128 (.624 winning percentage) in that time. The Rams have won five conference tournaments.

CSU has been to the WNIT seven times in his tenure, including last season. The Rams have once made the NCAA Tournament (2015-16) under Williams.

He has more than 500 career wins as a coach, including his time at CSU, South Dakota, Wayne State and Sheridan College.
